Legal Issues in the War on Terrorism

Mr Bellinger will discuss the US government’s position on a broad range of legal issues relating to the war on terrorism, including whether a state can be in an armed conflict with a non-state actor, the status and treatment of detainees, the use of military tribunals, the legality of renditions and the importance of global intelligence cooperation.

John Bellinger is the principal adviser on all domestic and international law matters to the US Department of State, the Foreign Service, and the diplomatic and consular posts abroad.

This series is hosted by the LSE International Humanitarian Law Project and supported by the Law Society Charity .

The next event in this series will be held on Thursday 30 November. Professor Francoise Hampson and Professor William Schabas will present a lecture entitled ‘The Interaction of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law ’. Ticket Information This event is free and open to all however a ticket is required. One ticket per person can be requested from 10.00am on Wednesday 18 October.
